Growing up in a small town, I was sheltered from many of the injustices and inequalities that exist in the world. It wasn’t until I entered college and became more aware of global issues that I realized the importance of human rights and the role nonprofits play in advocating for them.
During my sophomore year, I attended a guest lecture by a representative from a prominent human rights nonprofit organization. Their presentation opened my eyes to the countless violations happening around the world – from gender inequality and child labor to political repression and discrimination based on race or sexual orientation.
Inspired by their work, I decided to get involved with this nonprofit as a volunteer. Little did I know that this decision would change my life forever. Through various projects and campaigns, I witnessed firsthand how these organizations make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
